Moab

We had a great spring trip to Moab in April. Beanie enjoyed riding in the Baby Bjorn and in the bike trailer with Ikey.

Ikey's arms are long enough to reach TB's ear, which means Ikey can "hike" all day and TB wants him to hurry and get longer legs so he can hike by himself. The Burrows and (most of) the Taylors hiking around Fisher Towers in Castle Valley. We hiked to some petroglyphs on Kane Creek Road near the Colorado River. This was the first time I've ever been hiking with two babies by myself and I was (irrationally) afraid of getting attacked by a wild animal so we sang a lot of noisy songs until I felt safe. It was ridiculous and fun. This big kid hiked by my side for over a mile. He was very careful to stay away from cactus and keep track of his hat.

Here are the guys at Helper Mining and Railroad Museum. They locked the doors when they saw us coming (also, it was closing time) so we just explored the machinery outside. The kids and I went to Hole 'N The Rock while TB had a meeting. This is truly wacky place only 12 miles out of Moab. The tour of the home is awesome and weird and Ikey and I loved it. Jovie loves everything so that doesn't tell you anything about it, but a lot about her. The exotic animal zoo was kind of dry and dusty and I wonder if the animals like it very much, but Ikey said he wanted to see animals so we tried it.

We were crazy about the crazy art at Hole 'N The Rock. It was weird. Isaac is right in the path of the meteor(ite).
This jeep is made of license plates and old tools.

The Burrows Family Guide to Moab with little kids:

Stop at the Helper Mining and Railroad Museum for a good (almost) halfway point on the drive from SL. Check the museum schedule before you get too excited about going in.

Stay at The Gonzo in Moab, and ask for a first floor room that walks out to a grassy yard. Cool and funky and $$$. Or, stay at Moab Valley RV Resort where you can leave your bikes and your bike trailer at your cabin instead of driving around town with your bike rack on your car. Cheap!

Get a burger and a shake and a glass of GOOD MILK at Milt's in Moab. Eat good Mexican food at Miguel's Baja Grill on Main Street. We like the smoothies at Peace Tree on Main Street, but the restaurant is much fancier than it used to be, so wash the dirt off the kids before you try it out.

Check out http://www.climb-utah.com/ for information on family style hikes. A bike trailer is a fun way to get around town. You can ride over the pedestrian-only bridge and all the way out to Gemini Bridges trailhead now, or go through town on a riverside trail.

Try out the tour of the wacky house and the art yard at Hole 'N the Rock. If you go to the zoo there, buy a can of food for the animals because they (the animals) will give you dirty looks if you don't.

Did you do make sure you put this in here so we could know exactly what to do when we come in August? I am hoping Moab happens. I have left voicemails and sent emails without any response, so I have no idea if there is anything available for us that weekend. I need to try again!
No matter where we stay, thanks for planning a trip for us. And thanks for going the extra mile to personally check out all the sites you recommended. :)
