It's ISAAC! He read six books today!
We started out the way all great reading adventures do...words with pancakes. I told Ikey that I remembered that Clancy used to get some funny books from the library that he could read by himself and Ikey was very interested in that.
Also, trains with pancakes, because trains go with everything. |
We had to make a stop at Cottonwood High School (TB's alma mater) and the kids posed by the tile mosaic that is a gift from the Class of 1980 (that's TB's!). This school is very old and kind of overrun with monuments and gifts from all the classes.
Ikey reminded me to go the library, and he asked the librarian for "the books that kids can read ALONE." She pointed us in the right direction and I picked up Book 1 called "I See Sam" It has just those three words in it. Ikey sounded out all of them. I got the next five books and he read three of them in the library right there. Each one adds one word so he was up to five words in about ten minutes. We checked out the first six and headed home for nap/quiet time. Ikey doesn't fall asleep during naptime any more and you just can't make him.
When TB got home, Ikey SHOCKED him by picking up a new book and sounding it out. Honestly, I did not read them to him at all before, because he really would have memorized them. Jovie did after the first time Ike read them, but I really didn't cheat. It was a very exciting day! Ikey has memorized all of them now and we need to go back to the library to stock up with new ones.
