The Governor of Utah lives in the Kearns Mansion on South Temple. It was built 1901 of Sanpete County Limestone in a French style and with a Neptune theme. It is so pretty! You can tour it during the summer and just before Christmas, so we marched ourselves over to check it out one afternoon. I thought I'd explained very clearly what the plan was, but as we approached the building, Joive said, "Are you sure this is the White House?" I wish, baby doll.
We had such a good time at Sarah Daft Home when we went for Halloween, that we decided to visit again. We made snowman ornaments with Styrofoam balls covered with a 1:1 mixture of Elmer's glue and shaving cream. It was a giant mess to make, but they look cute and smell like a barber shop, so that's festive.
Here's our discussion on the way to the old folks' home about appropriate conversations.
Me: If we see something about someone that is different than we expect, like they have more makeup or missing teeth or a tube in their nose, we don't need to mention it, because that person already knows about it. We can focus more on things that we have in common. We could say, "Did you like Christmas when you were a kid?" "Did you ever dress up like Santa Clause?"
Isaac: I didn't say anything to that one-toothed lady last time.
Jovie: I promise. I won't tell them anything they already know.
The kids were actually very kind and peaceful. Isaac was talking to one woman who was blind (although spot on with this observation): You are gorgeous. Isaac said, "You know we all are gorgeous here. Especially you."
Ikey and Jovie handed out snowman ornaments while Lucy and Grace passed out snowflakes. The old folks were charmed. All of the kids were just adorable so everyone adored them.
