Jovie and I went on vacation so Ikey spent a lot of time with dad and grandmas and grandpas. He learned some crazy stuff while I was gone. Here's a sampling:
I want choking hazards! (TB tells me that this means jawbreakers.)

Aimee: What did you do outside?
Ikey: I saw an animal. I saw a SNAKE! It was just running around with me.
Aimee: Do you want me to get you some socks?
Ikey: No, I'm good with socks.
Aimee: Do you want cereal for breakfast?
Ikey: Cereal is not for breakfast. Cereal is a treat.
Aimee: Do you want Boomer the Fire Truck?
Ikey: No, I just want a fire truck with no face.
Aimee (on the phone from Florida): Sing me a song please.
Ikey: This old house goes creak creak creak... all through the bedroom.
So thanks to everyone who loved him and taught him something this week. Thanks for feeding him too. He seems like he's two inches taller and ten pounds heavier than when I left him.

Big Beanie Birthday
This little angel is ONE YEAR OLD!
She had a very fun party at her aunt's house...
We went to the zoo and rode the train with Ross and Grandma Rainey
She cuddled a new beloved dolly and modeled her signature crazy hair.
We just love this little girl so much. She's happy and sweet and so pretty.

Moab
We had a great spring trip to Moab in April.
Beanie enjoyed riding in the Baby Bjorn and in the bike trailer with Ikey.
Ikey's arms are long enough to reach TB's ear, which means Ikey can "hike" all day and TB wants him to hurry and get longer legs so he can hike by himself.
The Burrows and (most of) the Taylors hiking around Fisher Towers in Castle Valley.
We hiked to some petroglyphs on Kane Creek Road near the Colorado River. This was the first time I've ever been hiking with two babies by myself and I was (irrationally) afraid of getting attacked by a wild animal so we sang a lot of noisy songs until I felt safe. It was ridiculous and fun.
This big kid hiked by my side for over a mile. He was very careful to stay away from cactus and keep track of his hat.

Stop at the Helper Mining and Railroad Museum for a good (almost) halfway point on the drive from SL. Check the museum schedule before you get too excited about going in.
Stay at The Gonzo in Moab, and ask for a first floor room that walks out to a grassy yard. Cool and funky and $$$. Or, stay at Moab Valley RV Resort where you can leave your bikes and your bike trailer at your cabin instead of driving around town with your bike rack on your car. Cheap!
Get a burger and a shake and a glass of GOOD MILK at Milt's in Moab. Eat good Mexican food at Miguel's Baja Grill on Main Street. We like the smoothies at Peace Tree on Main Street, but the restaurant is much fancier than it used to be, so wash the dirt off the kids before you try it out.
Check out http://www.climb-utah.com/ for information on family style hikes. A bike trailer is a fun way to get around town. You can ride over the pedestrian-only bridge and all the way out to Gemini Bridges trailhead now, or go through town on a riverside trail.

Cultured
Isaac played the violin at Abravanel Hall as an opening act for Utah Symphony...

and his equally cultured cousins Clancy and Chloe.
We really went to watch the Symphony and Ballet West II perform "Peter and the Wolf". It was awesome. We're now in the middle of our tour of elementary and junior high musicals: "Seussical" last week and "Tom Sawyer" next. We're always sure to pack a lot of chocolate and sit in the back of the auditorium in case we're too rowdy.
Jovie Bean has been learning all kinds of new tricks. It's crazy how much she's changed in just a couple of weeks. She seems to understand most of what we say and care about half of that. She's a happy little lady and we just love her. She's pretty small - barely 16 pounds two weeks before her birthday - and she has NO TEETH so she seems like the world's best walking and talking 6 month old.

These are quotes from lunch with Ikey one day:
That's a giant piece of pickle.
I have a napkin in my ear.
I'm a silly billy man.
I need a bandaid on the top of my head.
Aimee: Do you want a new diaper?
Ikey: No, I just want to stand here with poopy pants.
Ikey: Did you poke me with your finger?
Aimee: I'm sorry, I didn't mean to.
Ikey: But you did.
Walking up the stairs with his hands full of cars, milk cup, etc. he said, "Can you help me? I can't hold everything. "
I caught him with his hands in my purse and a mouth full of gum. He assured me, "Gum is good for me. It's good for me. "
Aimee: It tastes good, it's not really good for you.
Ikey: It tastes sweet.
I put some cheese on Beanie's tray and she looked at it and squawked. I said, "Beanie is talking to her cheese."
Ikey directed the following to the cheese on his tray, "Hey hey hey! Are you here? You're pieces of slices. I'm eating you."
Ikey noticed that I was wearing heels and he said, "You have shoes. Don't tip over in those shoes."
He was reading The Great Brain again: "Oh!" Tom said. "I lost my list."

Ikey's Book Club
Ikey has always loved books more than any other toy. He "read" the newspaper before he could stand up. He has always been willing to sit still on my lap to hear a story. He has memorized several books: Little Pea, How to Dinosaurs Eat Their Food, Reindeer Run, Duck and Goose Find a Pumpkin, How to Dinosaurs Go To Bed. This means that TB and I have read these books a million times. We've moved on to longer books because my head was going to explode if I read Little Pea one more time.
Jovie got the Ivy + Bean (Ikey and Bean?) series for Christmas and we've read two of those. We've finished Little House in the Big Woods and started Farmer Boy. We've finished The Great Brain and we're in the middle of More Adventures of the Great Brain. Come over for story time!
I asked him to read The Great Brain to me. He opened the book and said, "One day, Tom ate supper. Tom washed the dishes." That's not what the book is actually about obviously, but he got the right character name. He'd love to discuss...
